My bongo has an immobiliser fitted and as I am the first uk owner I presume it was fitted in Japan. The key fob has seen better days and I am reluctant to use it. Is it possible and easy to get the fob cloned? I know the car radio's used in Japan are on a different set of frequencies to those in uk, and I don't know if the key fob transponders work on the same frequencies as the uk ones. Any info appreciated.

There are quite a few different frequencies, which are used internationally.. 315, 433 and 434 Mhz bands are common, as were the 37/38 Mhz in the early days.

There are different "code pulses" transmitted and received depending on the manufacturer as, obviously, you don't want the same frequency/code as your next door neighbour LOL!

All frequencies may not be approved for use in a particular country, but with a "grey" import this is moot. The only way to be certain, is to find a local alarm installer who has a "Key Fob RF Detector". They should be able to detect the frequency, as well as the codes generated.

If they can't sell you a replacement and reprogramme the system, knowing the model number may be enough on a site such as < tinyurl.com/yayel8m3 >. (Scroll to "Best Sellers" and see if any of those listed have the code type of the one you have. Click on the image and you'll see a list of fobs it replaces.)

eg: The KeylessOption Model KPT1370 will Quote
.Replaces LHJ011, 15186200, 15186201, 15132197, 15132198, 10377295, 22730827, 15186203, 21997127

You could buy your own detector, as they are available easily online. Start your own (white hat of course) "cracking" firm perhaps?

Thank you for the info about frequencies etc. I will have to get this sorted. I am hoping that I can just get the fob copied/cloned.
I will keep you advised.
